The argumentative style of this book was not effective, because it was very radical and unprofessional due to the constant use of racial slurs. Wideman recalls the capture of his younger brother Robby, details the subsequent trials that resulted in a sentence of life in prison, and provides vivid views of the American prison system. I only ordered the book because I knew the Widemans and went through school with the authors boys. What is most moving–to this reader–is Wideman’s brutal honesty, including his own discomfort with his brother, with visiting him in prison, and with–at its heart–finding a way to forgive him.

They may not have been enough. So, a bit of wodeman mixed bag for me for this one.
